Maria has always enjoyed expressing herself artistically, and as her children grew up she decided she should pursue this talent more seriously. Whilst studying Foundation Arts and Life Drawing, her tutors noticed her natural flare for photography and encouraged her to develop this discipline. Maria continued her studies gaining qualifications in both Media Arts and Photography.
During that time, she was asked to travel to Kyrghyzstan, Central Asia, with a local charity to produce images to raise awareness. Whilst there, she realised her passion for portrait photography. She loves meeting new people, and interacting with them, which she feels is a real privilege.
Maria was then commissioned to work for other charities and went to the slums of Mumbai, the shantytowns of Romania as well as orphanages and prisons in Malawi
Over time Maria began to realise the power that her images had to tell peoples stories. It was important to her to capture the emotion as well as the moment. Being a Mum, she also appreciates how quickly children grow up and how much it means to preserve those precious years. She continues to hone her craft not wishing to merely produce a record, Maria strives to create images of artistic merit that can be appreciated for many years to come.
Maria’s photography has now been recognised nationally, through gaining eight awards from the SWPP (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers) and more recently runner up in the prestigious International Image File triptych competition
